Mugg & Bean is one of South Africa’s leading coffee and casual dining restaurant brands. It was founded in 1996 by Ben Filmalter and his wife, Judy, after they were inspired by the warm atmosphere of a small coffee shop they visited in Chicago. The first Mugg & Bean location opened at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and quickly became popular for its generous portions and welcoming environment, reflected in its well-known slogan, “The Taste of More and More.”
The brand experienced significant growth after joining the Famous Brands group in 2009, expanding its presence across South Africa. Today, Mugg & Bean operates through two formats: full-service sit-down restaurants that cater to families, friends, and business meetings, and Mugg & Bean On-The-Move outlets, which provide convenient grab-and-go food and beverages at locations such as service stations, airports, and business centers.
