John Dory’s, often called “JD’s,” is a popular family-friendly restaurant chain in South Africa that specializes in seafood, grills, and sushi. The brand was founded in 1996, with its first restaurant opening on Silverton Road in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. John Dory’s became well known for its Mediterranean-style atmosphere, nautical theme, and affordable seafood meals.
In 2004, Spur Corporation bought a major share in the business, helping the brand grow from a small regional restaurant into a large national franchise across South Africa.
John Dory’s also focuses strongly on sustainable seafood through its Eco Voyage program. The company works with organizations such as World Wide Fund for Nature and South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative to support responsible fishing and seafood sourcing.
